The Pazi Story

How Pazi Came to Denver Public Schools
Once upon a time, there was a pretty bird named Pazi. He lived in the zoo. But Pazi loved to be free, so he decided to fly away. He flew and he flew and he flew, until he landed on a tree. This tree was next to the Valdez School playground. Pazi saw Carlos and Roberto playing on the swings. Then he heard something terrible. Carlos was telling Roberto to jump from the swing. "I dare you, I dare you," he said. Roberto looked at Carlos and he jumped. Pazi saw a little body hit the ground. He saw Roberto crying in pain. He had broken his arm. Pazi decided then and there to help children learn about playground safety. And he has done so ever since.
Special thanks to Ms. Peggy Jurg's first grade class at Cory Elementary School for naming the Play Cool at School mascot, Pazi, a fancy twist to the Spanish word for peace. Also, thanks to Mrs. Kathryn Jessen's second grade class at Valdez Elementary School for writing the story about how the bird came to Denver Public Schools to help with playground safety. The Pazi name and Pazi story were selected from entries into the Play Cool at School Name Our Mascot Contest held in the Spring of 2000.
